Maryam Abacha American University Kano set to establish research centre

The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, is set to establish a research centre as part of an effort to promote research and development.

In line with this, the founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has started working towards securing a research grant of about $54 million.

This was disclosed by the Vice President, Administration/ Registrar of MAAUN, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar at a joint meeting with the representatives of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) held at MAAUN Kano conference Hall on Friday.

The meeting was convened to discuss the scope of possible collaboration between MAAUN Kano and UTP.

The registrar said establishing the research centre is necessary so as to promote research development in the university as well as facilitate collaboration in research with other universities across the globe.

Dr Awais said, “Even though MAAUN Kano has its sister institution in Niger Republic established about nine years ago, the focus is here because we want to sustain the brand name of the university.”

In his remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr said the collaboration, when established, would promote students exchange, faculty exchange as well as facilitate the promotion of Masters and PhD programs.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between universities and called on the representatives of UTP and to bring out the scope of the areas for possible collaboration between UTP and MAAUN during the next meeting scheduled for Monday, 4th July 2022.

Earlier in his presentation, Dr. Zakariyya Uba Zango, said the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS which was established 23 years ago, runs programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The meeting was attended by Engr. Bashir Garba who also stressed the importance of collaboration between universities across the world.
