The Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullah Usman, formally arrived office on Tuesday.
His arrival at the office on Tuesday signifies the beginning of his interim leadership, pending confirmation by the Senate as the substantive Chairman and CEO of the commission.
Speaking at the brief reception held in his honor, Aliu Abdulrazaq expressed delight and gratitude at having the Chairman assume office and called on Staff to give him maximum cooperation towards the success of the Commission and in order to achieve its vision and mission.
He further called on staff to have the fear of Allah in executing their tasks while acknowledging the importance of continuity, particularly in the face of preparations for the upcoming 2025 Hajj.
During the meeting, Secretary Rabiu Abdullahi Kontagora greeted the Chairman with enthusiasm, acknowledging the dedication and expertise of the Commission’s staff, who have expressed full confidence in his vision.
Further reiterating the diligence of the Commission Staff, Director, Administration and Human Resources Management, Babagana Bukar emphasised on the remarkable ability and diligence of staff towards their duties and can exceed expectations with a little push and motivation.
Responding on behalf of the chairman Dr Shehu Makarfi appreciated the warm reception accorded the chairman and also used the opportunity to thank all for their support and expressed his willingness to work with all towards uplifting the commission.
The Acting Chairman’s tenure will focus on preparing the Commission for the next phase of 2025 Hajj operations, including finalizing the Commission’s strategic plans and addressing challenges faced during previous Hajj operations.
Pending his confirmation by the Senate, Professor Usman will continue to oversee all Hajj-related activities, working closely with the government and other stakeholders to ensure a successful Hajj pilgrimage for Nigerian pilgrims.
