Kaduna govt inaugurates governing boards for 3 tertiary institutions

The Kaduna State Government on Monday inaugurated the Governing Councils for its three tertiary institutions.

The institutions are: Kaduna State University (KASU), Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, and College of Education, Gidan Waya.

Inaugurating the councils in Kaduna, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Halima Lawal, said the members were selected based on their track record and experience.

“You are selected based on your track record of dedication, commitment, patriotism and experience.

“You are expected to bring to bear, your wealth of experience in the discharge of your duties to move the education sector forward.

“You have a huge task ahead of you and we are confident that you will deliver on your mandates successfully,” she said.

Mr Hussaini Dikko was inaugurated as Chairman, KASU Governing Council with the University Registrar, Mr Samuel Manshop as secretary and Mr Ismail Afieza representing the organised private sector.

Other members are: Dr Tanimu Meyere, Mrs Habiba Sani, Mrs Charity Shekari, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Tanko, the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors, and Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.

Others are two representatives of KASU Senate, one person appointed by the Congregation, one person appointed by Convocation, and the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Health and Finance.

Also inaugurated were Dr Ishaya Dare-Akau as Chairman, Governing Council of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic with Mr Haruna Uwais representing the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mrs Gladys Goje and Dr Salisu Kubau.

Other members include the Rector, the permanent secretaries of the ministries of Health and Finance, a member of the Academic Board, and representatives of the Nigerian Association of Engineers, Ahmadu Bello University and Ministry of Justice.

Prof. Binta Abdulrahman is the Chairman, Governing Council of the College of Education, Gidan Waya, with Kabiru Ajuji, Mr Masa’udu Igabi, Mr Bayie Dauda as members representing the public.

Other members include the Provost of the College, Prof. Alexander Kure, and the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Education, and Justice.

Others are: two representatives of the Academic Board, non-academic staff, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education.

In their separate comments, chairmen of the councils, Dikko, Dare-Akau and Abdulrahman, thanked the Kaduna State Government for finding them worthy of such responsibility.

They promised to give in their best and transform the respective institutions into centres of excellence for the overall development of the education sector.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Mr Suleiman Dabo, congratulated members of the governing councils and urged them to be fair and just in the discharge of their duties.
