The newly appointed Director-General of National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, Prof. Musa Maitafsir, has promised to consolidate the gains on training, retraining, upgrading and certification of teachers in the country.

Maitafsir, who was recently appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, spoke on Thursday in Kaduna when he took over the affairs of the institute.

He said: “There is no doubt, my predecessors have performed credibly well in training, re-training, upgrading and certification of Nigerian teachers, which form the core mandate of the institute.

“Consolidating the gains of the previous leaderships and bridging the gaps for maximum results will be the focus of the 8th Executive Management by the grace of God.”

The director-general noted the existence of unfinished businesses which require the urgent attention of the new management and the entire members of staff.

“Consequently, I want to assure you all that I will do everything possible to create an enabling environment for you to work conveniently and happily.

“This is in order to contribute our quota in promoting the image of the institute and service delivery to students.”

Maitafsir promised to do his possible best to turn around the fortunes of the various core departments of the institute, adding “this is key to realising its cardinal mandates”.

They include the Registry, Examinations and Academic Services Departments, field operations and students’ services, quality assurance and bursary.

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for finding him worthy of the appointment, Maitafsir said: “I promise to justify the confidence reposed in me.

“I also appreciate the Hon. Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, and the Hon. Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukuemeka Nwajiuba, for recommending me to serve my country in this capacity.”

Handing over the management earlier, the acting director-general and substantive Director of Examination of NTI, Dr Bashir Mamman, enumerated the achievements recorded and advised his successor to consolidate on the gains.

He urged the members of staff to support Maitafsir to enable him to improve the fortunes of the institute. (NAN)
