Accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) has arrived at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), for the full accreditation of its 15 academic programmes.
The accreditation team is expected to start the exercise with the programs in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences of the University.
The programs include Bsc Economics, Bsc Accounting, Bsc Banking and Finance, Bsc Peace and Conflict Resolution, Bsc International Relations, Bsc Mass Com and Bsc Human Resource
In his welcome address on behalf of the entire Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN), the President, Prof. Mohammad Israr said the university is honored to receive the team in the institution and share their expertise with them.
“We greatly value your work and guidance in ensuring the standards and quality of education in our country. Your visit serves as an opportunity for us to showcase our commitment to excellence and to seek your insight and recommendations for further improvement,” Prof. Israr said
Also speaking, the Director Founder’s Office, Dr. Aliyu Mirnga, urged the team not to hesitate to suggest where necessary they feel the university should improve.
“We want to inform you that our doors are open for suggestions. You should not hesitate to give us suggestions that will assist us. So, feel free to give us such suggestions,” Dr. Mirnga said.
In his short remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar expressed the readiness of the university to give the accreditation team necessary support and cooperation to ensure the success of the exercise.
Speaking, a member of the accreditation team, Assistant Chief Planning Officer from the NUC, Mrs Jamila Dahiru, said the accreditation exercise is an opportunity to assess the programs being run by the university to see if they are offered in accordance with the commission’s guidelines.
She explained that the team was not in the university to witch-hunt but to examine the existing programs and ensure that they are being run in accordance with the NUC guidelines.
Also speaking, Prof. Ademu Wada Attah of the Economics Department, University of Jos, gave assurance that the team will be objective in carrying out the assignment pointing out that upon completion of the exercise, they would make their findings known to the management.
According to him, the exercise was aimed at assessing the programs run by the university with a view to ensuring that basic standards required by the NUC are being strictly adhered to.
Among management staff of MAAUN that received the NUC team on arrival include President of the university, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr and Vice Chancellor of Franco- British International University, Kaduna, Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed Sabo.
Others were the Director Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Nura A. Yaro, Dean, School of Computing, Prof. Ibrahim Lawal and Dean School of Social and Management Sciences, Dr. Mahmoud Mukhtar Saidu
