The Federal Government has begun the installation of 96 solar-power street lights at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo, stated this in a statement by the Chief Information Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Yahaya, on Monday in Dutse.

Sabo said the installation project was being executed through the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

He said that the intervention was facilitated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Babangida Husseini.

The VC commended the Federal Government for the gesture, adding that the street lights would be installed along roads and faculty areas to improve visibility at night.

According to him, the lights will also enhance the security of students and property.

“ We expressed gratitude to the Permanent Secretary for the various interventions he brought to the university, especially the perimeter fencing of the institution, which has since been concluded,” Sabo was quoted as saying in the statement.

Yahaya recalled that one of the first things the VC did when he assumed office in February was to tour the university environment at night.

He said that it was during such a tour that the VC discovered the poor illumination of the university environment and took action to address the situation.
