Yobe State University, Damaturu, on Thursday matriculated 2,532 students into various programmes for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the matriculation is the 13th of its kind since the inception of the institution in 2006.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Mala Daura, charged the new intake students to take their studies seriously.
He said that over 10,000 candidates applied for admission into the institution through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE), adding that only 3,290 of them were admitted.
Daura said the 2,532 students matriculated after completing their registration.
The university, he said, began academic activities with 980 students in 2006, adding that the total students’ population stood at 9,610.
He commended the state government for its support to the institution.
In his remarks, the Registrar of the University, Dr Kalli Gazali, urged the matriculants to abide by the rules and regulations of the University.
He cautioned them against all forms of examination malpractice, stressing that defaulters would be sanctioned. (NAN)
